Don't Wait for Summer!

Cellulite - it’s an inside job

Not too long ago and much to my disgust, I noticed cellulite on the front of my legs!

I thought it was a little odd as I was exercising regularly, hadn’t put on any weight and I wasn’t really eating any differently. So why this sudden and undesirable lumpy appearance?

What we know is that cellulite may be a result of one or more of the following:

  • A lack of nourishing food especially healthy fats and abundant veggies

  • Fluid retention

  • Lack of circulation (blood flow)

  • Weak collagen structure of the skin, which leads to skin thinning and loss of elasticity

  • Being overweight

  • Hormonal changes, including in estrogen and cortisol

  • Lack of physical activity which will reduce blood supply to the fatty areas and increase fluid retention in cellulite areas

  • Eating the wrong types of fats, which increases the workload of the liver.

  • Sluggish metabolic rate caused by imbalances in the function of the thyroid gland and liver.

  • Build up of toxins in the fat cells.

  • Poor lymphatic drainage

This appearance coincided with my observation of a little "thickening" around my tummy and my hips - again a bit of a puzzle as I was eating well and exercising regularly - (if you haven't yet read this story you can read it here)

It did occur to me that maybe I was being a little vain but never-the-less I was hoping it would disappear as mysteriously as it appeared!

To cut a long story short, it did!

At this time I was super focussed on getting my hormones in check so I could put an end to my hot flushes and sleepless nights and I had started to

  • focus more on nutrition - portion size, quality, and abundant veggies

  • implement many little "tweaks" such as drinking lemon juice in water daily and eating cruciferous veggies twice a day

  • prioritise routines around sleep

  • take plant- based supplements to support my estrogen, progesterone and cortisol levels (based on results from functional diagnostic testing)

  • recognise the need to "close down the tabs" ie switch off and let go of things that didn't really matter

  • reduce my exposure to hormone- disrupting chemicals which were previously in my household cleaners, my makeup and my hair care products

Long story short, the happier my hormones were, the less "lumpiness" I had! 🎉🎉🎉
