It was my fault!🙈🙈🙈

I was always on the go, trying to cram 48 hours into every 24 hours, saying "yes' to everyone and everything, exercising 7 days a week and never ever allowing myself rest during the day - god forbid!!

I'm no longer like this - do you know why?

Because my hormones needed some loving and the long and the short of it was that my cortisol was sky high!

Cortisol in case you aren't aware is a steroid hormone that regulates a wide range of processes throughout the body, including metabolism and the immune response. It also has a very important role in helping the body respond to stress and is often regarded as the conductor of the hormonal orchestra

If your cortisol is higher than the ideal range you may experience some of the following:

  • rapid weight gain mainly in abdominal area contrasted with slender arms and legs

  • a flushed and round face

  • sleep challenges

  • high blood pressure

  • osteoporosis

  • skin changes

  • muscle weakness and fatigue

  • mood swings, which show as anxiety, depression or irritability

  • increased susceptibility to illness

  • increased thirst and frequency of urination.

  • symptoms due to a decrease in progesterone - a change in menstruation or fertility issues

How did I know my cortisol was high?

I ordered a saliva test and my Naturopath interpreted the results for me

They looked something like this:

Was it easy to make changes?

Let's say, I made them over time and with support from friends and trusted practitioners and it was worth the effort because I feel so much better now!

  • I identified my stress triggers and made a plan to successfully address them

  • Your body responds to the information you give it so I prioritised my mindset

  • I had rest days instead of exercising seven days a week

  • I exercised smarter incorporating less cardio and more strength work

  • I took up a craft project that forced me to sit and rest

  • I made a list of the books I wanted to read and ensured I got to read every single day

  • I set better boundaries and learnt to say "no" or "not now"

  • I incorporated essential oils into my morning and evening routines to calm my central nervous system and to attract positivity

  • I religiously took my supplements
